Social Outing – Bosworth Field and the Richard III Centre in Leicester.

Now Fully Booked but see lower down this page

The course of English history was forever changed in 1485 at Bosworth Field in Leicestershire when Richard Plantagenet was killed by the forces of Henry Tudor. Richard was the last English King to die in battle.  In case anyone missed all the publicity surrounding the discovery of his remains beneath a car park in Leicester a few years ago, this is an opportunity to catch up.

In the morning we will visit Bosworth Field taking in the museum and a short guided walking tour before pausing for lunch. In the afternoon we will go on to the Richard III visitors Centre in the heart of Leicester. A presentation here will be followed by a museum visit, and will combine with a visit to the Cathedral across the road where the tomb of Richard can be seen.

Do make sure you view the cathedrals superb parish chest, dug out from solid, 7′-6″ long having 6 hinges. It is on the right hand side as you exit the cathedral.

If time allows, and at your own speed, next door to the cathedral there can be seen one of the best preserved timber framed halls in the country, the Medieval Guild Hall.

All details now settled. Let me know your interest using the email address further down the page and I can send more info and a booking form. Forms also in the society journal, The Midland Ancestor.

Now all Fully Booked but let me know your interest in case of any cancellations, or else a second trip at some stage.
