Heraldry Group

The Kingsley Norris Room, BMI, Margaret Street, Birmingham.
Meets informally on 4th Tuesday of the month, except August and December.

Vice Chairman : Adrian P. S. de Redman FSA Scot., Hon.F.H.S.,

Email : heraldry@midanc.uk

The Heraldry Group is an integral part of the Society and holds informal meetings in the Kingsley Norris Room of the B.M.I. in Margaret Street, Birmingham on the 4th Tuesday of the month, except August and December.

Once a year, as part of the main calendar, there is the Peplow Lecture (named after an heraldic enthusiast Mr “Gus” Peplow) which mirrors the Kingsley-Norris Lecture on genealogy.

When conditions allow there is also a free Heraldry Week-end, hosted by the Town Hall, where visiting speakers present papers on the heraldic theme chosen for that year.

The original title of the Society has both Genealogy and Heraldry since, by studying the various coats of arms in stained glass windows, church monuments, etc. one can often discover who married who together with their family history. Why not come along and learn how to interpret them?

The Bernard Juby Award (named after a past Vice-Chairman – Heraldry, who designed and steered through the Society’s Coat of Arms) is given, as and when, to a Member who has shown great enthusiasm or contributed to heraldry within the society.
