The Chatterley Whitfield Explosion
Presenter – Ann Simcock
The area which our society covers has many and varied heavy industries but one is present throughout and that is mining. There are probably not many of our members who either do not have, or know, someone involved in the industry. People have mined the earth for centuries and many have suffered serious injury or even died in pursuit of the occupation. Ann has at least 6 ancestors who died earning their living in this way. Ann’s presentation involves just one, her 2x Great Grandfather who, along with 23 other miners died in tragic circumstances at Chatterley Whitfield Colliery, Stoke on Trent, on 7th Feb 1881.
An Online event using Zoom. Visit this page to find out how we do it.
