The Parish Chest & Poor Law with Jackie Cotterill
Parish Chests date from medieval times, required by law as a place for keeping important parochial documents secure. Over the years there were collected vast quantities of paper & vellum documents relating to the governance of the parish. Registers, Accounts, Charity Records, tithes, churchwardens, settlements and removals, Constables and Highway maintenance. Jackie will lift the lid on what the parish chest holds for family history researchers.
