Searching for Uncle George, Lost in France 1916
Uncle George joined the army the day after War was declared in 1914. As a well educated young man working in the city, George was destined for an officer career. Joining the ranks he served in Egypt before being moved to Gallipoli. When invalided out from the action and sent back to Blighty, transferring to the Scots Guards was the start of his officer life only for it to be cut short at the Somme in September 1916.
Phil Lamb will explain his more than 15 year interest in George Marquand Truss, how he tracked his movements and the visit to Georges final resting place.
