Wolverhampton: The Story of Carribee Island

Wed 30th April @ 7:15 pm - 9:00 pm BST

  • « Family History Centre – reopens at 10am
  • Birmingham: Society Conference and AGM »

In Victorian times Carribee Island was a notorious part of Wolverhampton, home to the city’s Irish migrants.  The neighbourhood was stigmatized as a problem space using public health language that was shot through with racial and social stereotypes.  In fact, it was home to ordinary people doing ordinary things.  Once the myths that were layered on it are picked apart, it was just an ordinary neighbourhood.

Join us for a fascinating talk about this lost area of Wolverhampton presented by Simon Briercliffe.

Doors open at 7.15 p.m. for a meeting start at 7.30 p.m.
