Was Your Ancestor a Criminal ? – An examination of 18th & 19th Century Crime

Presenter – Colin Chapman

Several of today’s petty misdemeanours were regarded in the past as crimes. Were your ancestors involved as witnesses, accusers, jurors, or even accused? Crimes were many and varied giving rise to much documentation for the family history researcher.

Colin Chapman is a Life Vice-President of the FFHS. He is Founder/co-founder of six county-based family history societies: President of three and Patron of another. A Vice-President and Fellow of the Society of Genealogists and a former member of its (then) Executive Committee. An acclaimed authority on WW1 German POWs held in Britain.

Colin has written numerous genealogically-related books, three of which are published also in the United States. He originated the three-letter Chapman County Code for British Isles counties which formed the formed the basis for a British Standard and now an International Standard, ISO-3166. that we all should be familiar with.
