Stourbridge: Group Visit – Church of St. Edmund, Dudley

Tue 18th June 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm BST
  • « Course – Who Were Your Ancestors?
  • Heraldry Group »

A Tour conducted by Jon Harcourt, church historian.

Known locally as Bottom Church with dedication to St Edmund, King and Martyr, the church is in Castle Street Dudley.

St. Edmund King of East Anglia from 855 AD to 870 AD was defeated by the Vikings, bound to a tree and executed with arrows, then beheaded as he would not renounce the Christian faith.

A church has stood on this site for over 1000 years, the present building was built in 1746. Intriguingly during repairs to the tower in 2018, Jon says a number of things came to light but we will have to wait until June 18th  to see what has appeared.

Limited Spaces. Booking essential – cost £4 advance to donation to the church.

A booking means the organiser Vicky being in receipt of your cheque or cash.

Meet outside the church.
