About Us
Midland Ancestors’ London & Home Counties Group is open to all and very accessible to those who live in London and the surrounding counties (and sometimes further afield). The talks are designed both for those who have an interest in the Midlands and those who look for a more generalist talk, making the meetings of interest to all researchers.
We currently meet four times a year, usually on the second Saturday of the first month in a quarter from 10.00am. Our meeting place is the London Family History Centre in South Kensington where we have, after our talk, exclusive use of the research facility containing many more records than are normally available on-line. This is located in the Mormon Temple at: 64-68 Princes Gate, Exhibition Road, London, SW7 2PA

April meeting
Our next meeting will take place on Saturday 11th April when the renowned speaker, author and broadcaster Andrew Lound will present “Titanic- The Midlands’ Connection”. Based on his own research Andrew tells the story of the Midlands’ industrial work on the ship and the fate of the local passengers. I have seen this presentation, and it is excellent. Andrew’s depth and breadth of knowledge is outstanding making for a compelling and fascinating insight into the subject. We meet in the LDS Family History Centre as usual, a reminder of location details below.
Did you know that …
The centre offers the opportunity to carry out your own genealogy research with access to a range of premium genealogy sites via the centre’s research room. Some current examples of (usually payable) sites accessible from the centre research room is shown on the attached list. It is advised to double check with the centre if planning a special visit to access a particular website. Opening details and contact information can be found here.
Why not make a day of it in central London? Presentation + research and iconic attractions within a few minutes’ walk of the centre.
Meeting location
Our meetings are held at the centrally located LDS Hyde Park Family Search Centre, 64-68 Princes Gate, Exhibition Road, South Kensington. Doors open at 10:00 am for an 11:00 am start. The centre is just a short walk from South Kensington tube station and is also served by a number of bus routes.
Future plans
On Sunday 17th May we have planned a visit to The National Museum of Computing in Bletchley. We will meet at the museum, but we need to know in advance who will be coming as the museum needs to know numbers to ensure there are enough volunteers present, and to arrange a steady flow through the museum. So please let Brian know if you are interested in coming by the 15th April using this dedicated email brian.events@techie.com. See the attached newsletter for further details.
Our next planned meeting in London is on Saturday 11 July so save the date!
Should you have any queries, comments or suggestion then please do not hesitate to get in touch.
We look forward to welcoming you to our April meeting and please bring along anyone who would be interested in seeing Andrew’s excellent presentation. A good turnout at our meetings will ensure that we can have further great speakers and help our group to thrive.
