WELFORD-ON-AVON

The parish was transferred from Gloucesteshire to Warwickshire in 1931. The village is about four miles south west of Stratford-upon-Avon. There are a number of old cottages together with new housing. The area originally belonged to the Priory of Deerhurst in Gloucestershire. The church, rebuilt to the design of Sir Gilbert Scott in 1866, retains some traces of its Norman origin. Bickmarsh and Little Dorsington are hamlets within the parish.
