SALFORD PRIORS

The village is about six miles south west of Alcester, and the area of the parish originally belonged to the Abbot of Kenilworth. In the hamlet of Abbots Salford is Salford Hall which, during the Civil War was owned by the Stanford family. It became the centre for a community of English Benedictine nuns in the eighteenth century. It is now a hotel. The busy A439 Evesham to Stratford road divides the parish. The area has many fruit farms and market gardens. Ragley Hall estate is nearby. Other hamlets are Dunnington, Rushford, Chapel Oak, Cock Bevington and Wood Bevington.
