MEREVALE

This small parish lies just about one and a half miles east of Atherstone. The Cistercian Abbey of Merevale was dissolved by Henry VIII but some traces of it still remain. Merevale Hall was occupied by the local mine owner W.S.Dugdale and was built in 1840. The chapel at the gates of the old abbey is now used as the parish church.
