BERKSWELL

Situated just over six miles west of Coventry, this picturesque village is recorded in the Domesday Survey. It celebrated the 1,000th year of the ministry of its church in 1972. The name is said to be derived from an ancient spring or well which can still be seen near the Rectory. A 'Stattis' or Statute Fair was held each October at which local farmers would engage their labourers and servants for the following year. Place names in the parish are Four Oaks (not to be confused with Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield), Bradnock Marsh and Tile Hill (partly in Stoneleigh).
