SUMMARY:Birmingham: Birmingham Middlemore Emigration Homes
DESCRIPTION:Due To Unforeseen Circumstances a Change of Date and Speaker\nThe Birmingham Middlemore Emigration Homes between 1873 and 1954\nStories of the Lost Children. A Presentation by Val Hart.\nVals presentation is about the work of the Middlemore Homes in Birmingham who emigrated over 5000 children to Canada and Australia between 1873 and 1954. In the days to 1926 the children went to families living in remote farms in Eastern Canada. Later children were taken to Fairbridge Farm Schools in both  Western Canada and Australia. \nThe future lives of these children varied enormously – there are tales of happiness and achievement as well as tales of great sadness. Val will explain John Middlemore’s intentions in founding the Homes and also shine a spotlight on a few of the children\, tracing what happened to them\, with material supplied both by relatives and archival research. \n\n\n  \n  \nAnnual General Meeting\nThe AGM scheduled for 13th May will reconvene\, it having been adjourned due to there being no quorum present. It will proceed in accordance with Clause 10h of the Constitution. \n  \n

SUMMARY:On Line – Family History Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Family History Workshop by Members\nThis months focus being Huguenot Ancestry\nAn On Line Members Meeting where you can hear about other members research experiences. Society member Sandra Robinson has kindly offered to run a Workshop focussed on researching Huguenot ancestry. Perhaps there is more Huguenot ancestry in our families than we realise\, might we all have Huguenots in our line if we look deep enough and wide enough. \nAnn is a Huguenot ancestry specialist. She is on the Council (governing body) of the Huguenot Society of Great Britain and Ireland\, and is consultant genealogist to the Huguenot Museum in Rochester. She was Huguenot ancestry expert for BBC’s WDYTYA? (Joe Sugg\, Nov 2021). \nSandra speaks French\, Dutch\, Flemish and German and is familiar with searching records in France\, Belgium\, The Netherlands and Germany\, as well as the usual English-language records on both sides of the Atlantic\, these being countries from which Huguenots (and Walloons) originated\, or to which they fled to escape persecution. \nPlease get in touch by email eventsonline@mid-anc.uk  if you have a query or are stuck somewhere and we will raise it in the workshop. \n  \nThese meetings are always fairly loose format and will go where they lead. If you would like to make a contribution\, please get in touch. You do not need to be an experienced researcher. \nThe success of the format is entirely dependent upon the members. It is in your hands. Many people have asked if we will be running any Zoom meetings in the future\, now is your chance to help out. \nAn Online event using Zoom.
