SUMMARY:On Line – Family History Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Family History Workshop by Members\nAn On Line Members Meeting where you can hear about other members research experiences. You can learn how they knocked down their brick walls\, what new websites they found\, how they got to grips with better known sites\, any obscure or lesser known websites\, archives offices or libraries\, or tackled computer problems. What Tips & Tricks they might have to help with research or help with software they might use. All the issues that family historians frequently come up against. In essence\, a Midland Ancestors Self Help Workshop. \nPlease get in touch by email eventsonline@mid-anc.uk  if you have a query or are stuck somewhere and we will raise it in the workshop. \n  \nThese meetings will be fairly loose format and will go where they lead. If you would like to make a contribution\, please get in touch. You do not need to be an experienced researcher. \nThe success of the format is entirely dependent upon the members. It is in your hands. Many people have asked if we will be running any Zoom meetings in the future\, now is your chance to help out. \nAn Online event using Zoom. Visit this page to find out how we do it. \nTo Register\, click here – Workshop

SUMMARY:Wolverhampton: Hereward The Wake
DESCRIPTION:Hereward The Wake\n“The Last True Englishman” or “A Hero of Romance More Than History?”  Famed through folklore\, immortalised through myth\, Hereward The Wake has been depicted as an all-action hero of Anglo Saxon descent (but he could have been half Danish!). \nHis adventures and escapades were recorded in prose and verse within 40 years of his death which was unusual.  But just WHO was he? \nLet’s sort the myth from fact; the legend from reality.  All in costume from the 11th century of course. \nRetired history teacher\, Max Keen will tell us all.

SUMMARY:Birmingham: Herbert Mowle Kendal
DESCRIPTION:The curious case of Mr. Herbert Mowle Kendal\nA presentation by Paul Handford MBE. \nThis talk\, snowed off from last year\, is about a Mr Kendal\, a civilian volunteer ambulance driver who was killed in Action in May 1918 whilst driving his ambulance in support of the French Army. Paul discovered his  death was not recorded or indeed recognised by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Thereby commenced a five year journey of research\, which included translating French War Diaries\, examining records contained at the International Red Cross (Geneva) and other research material. His findings  were submitted to the CWGC  for scrutiny and accepted. Mr. Kendal will now be the first ever civilian casualty to be commemorated on a CWGC War Memorial. \n  \nDo please note that this meeting is not on the usual Wednesday evening but a Saturday afternoon

SUMMARY:National Archives Introductory Session
DESCRIPTION:National Archives Introductory Session\nIntended for those who have possibly wanted to visit the National Archives\, found their website a little daunting and then left it at that. Also for those who have visited perhaps just once and felt they have not had the best out of it. \nThis is a group participation live computer assessment of the TNA website and their Discovery search engine\, finding out how to be undaunted by it so that you can make the most of your visit. \nYou can use your own laptop or suitable mobile device and tap in to the BMI WiFi or use the society computers.  Lasts about 2 ½ hours\, places strictly limited. Includes some handouts and time for some 1 to 1 afterwards. At no cost\, but I would be expecting to see you on a coach before too long. Takes place in the group library\, the Kingsley Norris Room at the BMI. You can register your interest through the email address below. \nGet back to the Trips page here
