DESCRIPTION:Researching Criminal Records with Penny Smith\nWe are frequently shocked when finding out how severely our criminal ancestors were punished for what now seem the slightest of offences. In 1868 in Wolverhampton\, a sentence of 3 months hard labour was given to a 16 year old lad for the theft of a cap.
